EXHIBITION FOR GEORGE ~ A CELEBRATION OF THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF GEORGE'S BIRTHDAY
26 February ~ 8 March
Liverpool Academy of Arts
32 Seel Street
Liverpool, Merseyside L1 4 BE
Gallery times from 00 44 (0)151 709 0735.
"George Harrison loved to draw. As a boy he drew endless guitars in his school books. The Beatles whiled away hours in hotel rooms painting together ~ notably during their time in Japan in 1965 and again when they were in Rishikesh. He painted his own sleeve for Electronic Sounds and to the end of his life loved to write notes in coloured pens and even special drawings for close friends. He used to look forward to the art lessons he was given by Legs Larry Smith at home in Friar Park and he was a patron of the Arts. As late as 2001 George commissioned a painting "Let It Be". (Telling that the title was of a tune by a friend and not one of his own...)
For this reason 5 Artists are will be exhibiting work to illustrate his life, music and philosophy in Liverpool to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of George's Birthday in the City of his Birth.
Also on display will be the "HandMade" cards (named for George's HandMade Films) which have been sent in especially by fans from all over the world. These cards will be sent on to Friar Park after the Exhibition by For George.

Dear George Admirers,
Spending time with George at the ashram in India, in 1968, changed my life. Many people have asked "What's India like?" and
"Tell me what the Beatles were like when you met them?" India is a place I love, and in honour of George's 70th birthday, I invite
you to join me on an intimate, and small-group tour I'll be leading to some of the most beautiful places in India--including Rishikesh
and several other important George-related locations. For information please see the attached link and for questions just email
me directly: [email protected]
Best wishes,
Paul

Living in The Material World ~ The Book
With many previously unseen photos of George...
Liverpool premiere of 'George Harrison: Living in the Material World' by For George on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 11:34am
The cinema at FACT was full to bursting at the Premiere of "Living in the Material World" in Liverpool and FACT had done a brilliant job in putting out leaflets and posters for For George.THANK YOU.
At 3 1/2 hours the time flew past (and a fan was heard to murmur hopefully on the way out "I wonder if there will be more on the dvd!!!" Hope so!).
There were superb unseen photos of George and some new footage too - visually a complete treat and there was a brilliant cameo from Jackie Stewart that really says it all.
Although the songs were not played in their entirety, George's music never sounded better with his sweet voice and guitar filling the theatre.
We all have our own ideas, possibly, of what we would want from a film which will be THE definitive biopic on George, and that ofcourse is only natural from hardcore fans as opposed to the many people who will see this film and probably only have a marginal knowledge of the Life and Times of the one and only George Harrison. But these people, who didn't know the history as do we, will come away with the certain knowledge that George was really an incredible human being - so job done and the sincerity of the Director Martin Scorsese cannot be doubted.
For George cannot wait to see all those wonderful images of George again and urge you to go to the Cinema if you possibly can to see them in all their overwhelming beauty on the big screen and to hear that music, like no other, surround you and remind you why George occupies the place he does in our hearts.
For George are guessing "Living in the Material World" will be an Academy Award Winner!
THANK YOU FACT FOR HELPING THE LITTLE GUY AND PUTTING UP POSTERS AND HAVING LEAFLETS OUT FOR TEN YEARS ON.

Special evening Remembering George with Gavin Pring , Nube 9 and Legs Larry Smith
Gavin Pring needs no introduction to George fans and being a Liverpool lad like Rick will be given a warm welcome home from Las Vegas.
Nube 9 (Cloud 9) from Argentina are voted the favourite Beatle Cover Band year after year at the Mathew Street Festival in Liverpool.
Legs Larry Smith knew George very well for a number of years andhad the honour of being immortalised in song "His name is Legs!"
So all in all, this is not to be missed.
This was a blast - there was even a surprise appearance by Jackie Lomax who sang the song he wrote for his friend, about whom he still talks with such affection.

Church where George was Christened closes...
Sunday 3rd April 11 am was the last service in the Church's 124 year history. George was christened here and accompanied his Mum and siblings to Mass on Sunday till he was 12 years old.
The Church was packed to the rafters with not even standing room. There were many tears. The hymns were sung with more feeling than ever and the last Blessing took on a special significance.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE 25 FEBRUARY 2011
HERE COMES THE SUN and MY SWEET LORD
27 .02.11 THANK YOU to the Our Lady of Good Helpers for their fabulous rendition of not just one but two of George's most uplifting "tunes". Little boys about the age he would have been when he went to Our Lady of Good Help in Chestnut Grove, Wavertree (Liverpool) were nodding their heads in time. And on a horrid grey day the sun did come out in all its glory flooding the Church with light through the magnificent stained glass windows.

George and Ravi Shankar Collaboration Box Set
_Out on 19 October 2010 a 3 cd/1 dvd numbered boxed
set from Dark Horse Records/Rhino Entertainment is due for release
which features the rare concert performance of the Ravi Shankar's Music
Festival From India recorded at London's Royal Albert Hall in 1974. WOW
- they don't say if it will have little clippets of George... hope
so...
(YES - it has and in our opinion this is worth getting for the 1.59 minutes of footage of George introducing the Concert and the amazing photo of him with Ravi on page 13 of the accompanying Book alone... The quality of everything in this package is absolutely superb and gives Genesis a run for their money!)

_Out of 21 Tracks George plays on, produces or has written 9 of them - this one is a must...
5 King Of Fuh / Brute Force
Brute Force is a New York songwriter and this single was championed by John Lennon and George Harrison, but ‘Fuh’ rhymes with ‘Uh’, and ‘the Fuh king’ was therefore banned back in 1969.
6 Sour Milk Sea / Jackie Lomax
Jackie Lomax has a great blue-eyed soul voice that more than does justice to this otherwise unavailable ‘White Album’-era song by George Harrison. Paul and Ringo provide rhythm and Eric Clapton plays lead guitar.
8 That's The Way God Planned It / Billy Preston
Billy Preston’s breakthrough UK hit, reaching No. 11, features the stellar line-up of Billy on keyboards, George Harrison on guitar, Keith Richards on bass, Ginger Baker on drums and Eric Clapton on lead guitar.
13 Ain't That Cute / Doris Troy
Soul singer-songwriter Doris Troy had scored hits before coming to Apple in 1969, and she and George Harrison wrote ‘Ain’t That Cute’ from scratch in the studio — the first time George had ever written a song that way.
14 My Sweet Lord / Billy Preston
George Harrison produced this soulful, gospel version of his most famous solo song, which he gave to Billy Preston before he had recorded it and released it himself.
15 Try Some Buy Some / Ronnie Spector
Ronnie Spector, one-time Ronette and former wife of legendary producer Phil, recorded this George Harrison original in 1971. George later re-cut it himself for Living In The Material World, using the exact same backing as Ronnie’s single.
16 Govinda / Radha Krishna Temple
‘Govinda’ is a Sanskrit hymn to Krishna, and was a UK Top 30 hit for the Radha Krishna Temple in 1970. Produced by George Harrison, who also plays bass and accordion.
20 Sweet Music / Lon & Derrek van Eaton
New Jersey’s Lon & Derrek van Eaton were one of the last acts to sign to Apple in 1971 and the first to make use of Apple’s then state-of-the-art recording studio. George Harrison produced ‘Sweet Music’ and Ringo played drums.
21 Day After Day / Badfinger
The band’s third single for Apple was produced by George Harrison, who duetted with the band’s Pete Ham on the slide guitar solo. It went UK Top 10 in 1972, and peaked at No. 4 Billboard in the US, in the same week that Nilsson’s cover of Badfinger’s ‘Without You’ was at No. 1.
